In May 2014, Joanne Shaw Taylor reunited with her ‘White Sugar’ album producer Jim Gaines, and recorded a new studio album in Memphis. “The Dirty Truth” is a return to Joanne’s original sound that mixes rock riffs with blues influences. The album is released in the UK today, Monday 22nd September, on Joanne’s boutique label Axehouse Music.
“I wanted to go back into the studio in Memphis with Jim to retain the same vibe that we captured on the first album,” says Joanne. “The new album is a combination of rock and blues. It’s an exciting collaboration, and hopefully my fans will love the more stripped down sound.”
We spoke to Joanne on the anniversary of the passing of Jimi Hendrix. Before we began our chat about ‘The Dirty Truth’ and her upcoming UK tour, we asked Joanne for her thoughts on the day we celebrate Jimi’s life and works.

Following our homage to the 70s, The Classic Rock Show is back with another ‘Special’, this time we’re taking you back to the 80s.
Tonight, we begin our quest to showcase some of the very best rock music from the 80s. But we just couldn’t squeeze a whole decade of great music into one three-hour show. So we decided to break it up into ten, yes ten, ‘Specials’…’80 through to ’89!! These will go to air over the coming months.
Our Facebook Group will be the usual place to get all the chat and comment during the show: www.facebook.com/groups/theclassicrockshow
Listen links can be found on our homepage.
See you at 7pm.
It was great to see new faces joining us and rockin’ out along to ‘The Classic Rock Show’ last Thursday.
Bex is back next week – Thursday, July 3rd at 7pm – and she’ll make sure you get your fix with some LOUD tunes.
Here’s what we played on the show.
See you soon!
Had a number of messages sent in via Twitter and Facebook pretty much as soon as the show finished, asking about the playlist from last week and when we would be posting it up. Well, here it is.
Looking forward to tomorrow night’s show. Some cracking requests to play for you and a couple of prime cuts from yours truly.
See you at 7pm (UK time). (click here for more details).
Between us, we created a bit of a buzz last night. Plenty of ground was covered and the requests we played were simply outstanding.
Here’s the playlist.
Thanks again for tuning into the show. Don’t forget that next week we’re running the final part in our series of shows celebrating all that was the 1970s. More info can be found here.
In the meantime, have yourselves a great weekend.
