John Garcia talks to ‘The Classic Rock Show’: “This is a straight rock ‘n’ roll record”

After something like 10 years or so of rumours and conjecture, “will he, won’t he”, John Garcia’s debut solo album is finally out and available worldwide through Napalm Records. It’s a masterpiece by the most distinctive voice of the entire Desert & Stoner Rock scene!

This record is full of first-class, catchy rock numbers that commute equally between Classic Rock and concise Stoner elements. John Garcia has delivered a multi-faceted and extremely intense solo album that will stir up more dust than a sandstorm in the Californian desert. Robby Krieger (The Doors), Danko Jones, Tom Brayton, Mark Diamond and also Garcia‘s old cohort in Kyuss Nick Oliveri show up as guest musicians to round out John‘s solo masterpiece.

John spoke to us recently from his Palm Springs home. We covered a good amount of ground; from what he’s been listening to music-wise, to how much he and his fellow musicians have put into this project and the experience of working with The Doors’ guitarist, Robby Krieger.

“I’m a fan of Rock Music” he says. “This is not a Country Record. This is not an underwater Polka record. This is a straight Rock ‘n’ Roll record.” He went on to add, “Hey man, if you like anything by Judas Priest, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath to Led Zeppelin, you just may like some of the stuff that I’m doing!”

Those of us who have followed John’s music career over the past 25 years or so, will immediately hear that he totally commands his vocal performances on the album – personally speaking, I don’t think he’s sounded better. Of this he says, “My voice has gotten better with age. I’m learning how to control it more.”

You can listen to the interview here:

But it doesn’t just end there. To celebrate his new release, John Garcia will hit the stages for an extense European tour (including four UK dates in early December), not only presenting his solo record live, but also playing past and present: From legendary Kyuss songs off Sky Valley, Blues for the Red Sun, …And The Circus Leaves Town – including some rarities even Kyuss never played live – to Slo Burn, this tour will be a highlight and resumé of legendary tunes, that John Garcia has created in his career. John will be hitting the road with the following, fantastic musicians on stage:

Ehren Groban – Guitar ( War Drum ), Mike Pygmie – Bass ( You Know Who ), Greg Saenz – Drums ( You Know Who, The Dwarves ).

So there you have it. John Garcia’s debut solo album is out now. I’ve been listening to this album constantly for the past three weeks and it was the first CD to get loaded into my new car’s stereo system, which I took delivery of today!

We talk to @BloodyHammers Anders Manga about ‘Under Satan’s Sun’ and #DownloadFest

Anders Manga of Bloody Hammers“Southern Gothic Fuzz from Transylvania County” is how they describe themselves and I got to talk with Anders Manga of Bloody Hammers about it.

Our conversation took place shortly after it was announced they’d be playing Download Festival 2014. We talked about the band’s line-up, musical influences, an invitation from Phil Anselmo to play at his festival and the fact that they’ll soon be bringing their unique brand of Goth Rock to European shores soon.

This all coincides with the release of their upcoming album ‘Under Satan’s Sun’ which follows once more the dark paths populated by sinister characters and spectral apparitions. Dark Occult Rock with a pinch of H.P. Lovecraft and Ray Bradbury is the main attraction of the show, when the master of ceremonies Anders Manga opens the gates to the nether world.”Under Satan’s Sun” is a multilayered album that resembles a classic horror flick from the 70s. An album filled with charm, big refrains and a classy atmosphere.

Bloody Hammers have just released a new video which has a bit of a background story to it. It’s based upon a true event which happened in the county many years ago, involving a husband and wife who were on the run from the authorities. Anders talks us through the story, a story which has become part of local folklore.

We’ll be playing some more Bloody Hammers on Thursday night’s show, so make sure you tune in on 15th May – 7pm (UK time) / 2pm EDT.

In the meantime, check out our audio interview:-

I’m looking forward to seeing them at The Underworld in London when they hit the UK for the very first time. Hope to see you there!
