INTERVIEW: Hear Nate Bergman of Lionize giving us his thoughts ahead of LOTR2

You would have had to have been hiding under a very large stone not to have heard that ‘Lords Of The Riff 2’ is soon to bring three of the best up and coming bands together for a tour of the UK.

LOTR 2 begins next month, November 2014, taking in Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, Manchester, Colchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Stoke and London.

LOTR2

Kyng, Anti-Mortem and Lionize have each worked on their craft for a good number of years – since the mid-to-late noughties – steadily growing their fan-base through the writing of great sounding music and seemingly tireless touring.

Lionize came over to the UK for the very first time earlier this year as tour support for fellow Weathermaker lablemates Clutch. The band complemented the headline act admirably, to the extent that the buzz heard coming out of the gigs was not just about Clutch, but Lionize too.

We caught up with Nate Bergman (Guitar/Vocals) to see how the band felt about returning to the UK.

Vinnie Paul of Hellyeah talks about Blood For Blood and album producer Kevin Churko, the new line-up and his infamous hats!

Having seen them totally decimate The Underworld last year, I was keen to see how Hellyeah’s new line-up was performing on the back of their ‘Blood For Blood’ release.

Friends and colleagues who saw Hellyeah at Bloodstock and on a number of dates on this tour had already told me that they were sounding better than ever.

10543596_10204135579896955_6514619416179427378_oGreg Tribbett and Bob Zilla have been replaced by Christian Brady (formerly with Magna-Fi) and Kyle Sanders (formerly with Bloodsimple and is the brother of Mastodon’s Troy Sanders) on guitar and bass respectively. These two exponents of their craft have brought with them another level of energy, positivity and musical focus to Hellyeah’s ‘live’ performances. It’s also noticeable that Chad Gray has more than decent enough backing for his vocals as a consequence of Christian and Kyle’s abilities.

We caught up with Vinnie Paul before they took to the stage and asked him about ‘Blood For Blood’, working with album producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, In This Moment, Hinder, Five Finger Death Punch) how the tour was going, but I began our chat by asking him about the infamous hats he sports from time to time.

Thanks for listening. Come and join us on a Thursday night by tuning into ‘The Classic Rock Show’!

INTERVIEW: @Magnumonline_ Magnum’s Bob Catley talks to ‘The Classic Rock Show’

Magnum have released their 18th studio album ‘Escape From The Shadow Garden’ – out on SPV. In my humble opinion, it’s their best album since ‘Wings Of Heaven’. Tony Clarkin continues to be a driven artist; constantly writing, creating stories and soundscapes that draw you in and hold your attention until the very last note has been played.

Magnum are one of those bands you just know before you see them ‘live’ that you’re going to get a good show. It’s evident from Magnum’s latest offering that they’ve hit on a rich vein of creativity and, given what I saw on stage the other night at The Waterfront in Norwich, the band are all clearly enjoying every minute of it. I’m of the opinion they’ve not been in better shape as a collective force – sounding better than ever.

bobSome hours before they took to the stage, I caught up with a very upbeat and enthusiastic Bob Catley and we soon got talking about the writing of ‘Escape From The Shadow Garden’, the great reception the new album’s getting both from fans and critics, their setlist, band members, album artwork (once again provided by the amazing artist Rodney Matthews) and the current UK tour.

Bob gave us a great insight into the band that is Magnum – a quintessentially British rock band that has and continues to create some of the most memorable songs ever written and produced. A band whose music is enjoyed by generations of die-hard rock fans the world over.
