John Garcia to release his solo album!

John Garcia is set to release his solo album John Garcia on August 4th in the UK on Napalm Records!  John recently completed work on the first video from the album for the song “My Mind” and The Classic Rock Show will be discussing all this and much more with John very soon.

With ‘Vista Chino’, Garcia makes music very close to his ‘Kyuss’ roots, but on his self-titled solo album he also ventures out with some experiments and convinces all along the line. This record is full of first-class, catchy rock numbers that commute equally between Classic Rock and concise Stoner elements.

Once you’ve made contact and started ingesting the tracks ‘My Mind’ or ‘5000 Miles’, you will see this album is spreading like an infection to the body and one is happy to be involved in the short and crisp ‘Saddleback’ or  ‘Confusion’, which is strongly rooted in Blues. ‘Her Bullets Energy’ is the next ultra-bouncer on the record, with the legendary Robby Krieger (The Doors) on the guitar. John Garcia has delivered a multi-faceted and extremely intense solo album that will stir up more dust than a sandstorm in the California desert. Danko Jones, Tom Brayton, Mark Diamond and also Garcia’s old cohort of Kyuss, Nick Oliveri show up as guest musicians to round out this solo masterpiece.

A preview clip of the entire album can be viewed below.

‘John Garcia’ is available on CD, Vinyl and Digitally on Napalm Records on August 4, 2014 – pre-order here.

Keep an eye out for the interview with John.

Win a copy of ‘Full Throttle’ on CD in our Massive competition

With thanks to the guys in the band Massive and our friends at Earache Records, we’re giving you a chance to win a CD of Massive’s debut album ‘Full Throttle’ which has been revamped with four new recordings and is out July 21st.

massive‘Full Throttle’ is a breakneck all killer, no filler record which is brimming with attitude. Tracks like “One By One” fuse aggressive and anthemic choruses with fun-filled solos whilst the bass-heavy, testosterone-soaked “Dancefloor” is more sweaty circle pit than glitzy ballroom. The menace and grit of the band comes out in tracks like “Big Trend Setter”, which is an egotistical explosion of pure rock ‘n’ roll arrogance. “Now or Never” is a white-knuckle joyride with enough G-force to make your head spin, and the middle-finger-to-the-man numbers like “Hollywood” will whip up any crowd into an anarchic frenzy.

2014-07-09 11.04.43

Musically, the band keep it simple and direct, with high-energy tunes set around infectious, rabble-rousing choruses that bring out the rabid rock ‘n’ rollers in the most sterile of crowds.

Massive have already been featured on the front of Classic Rock Magazine and they recently stepped into the studio to record 4 more songs to add to “Full Throttle”, including two new tunes and covers of AC/DC’s “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)” and Aerosmith’s “Rats in the Cellar”.

The band have also confirmed their first visit to Europe, beginning with a slot at the Hard Rock Hell festival in November. We’ve also heard that Massive will be looking to play a few additional gigs around the UK while they’re over.

Enter the competition by answering a simple question about Massive’s new album and if you’re correct, you could be in with a chance of winning a copy of ‘Full Throttle’!

Only entries submitted through this form will be accepted:-

Fist swinging, riot-starting, girlfriend-stealing, punch-in-the-face rock n’ roll! Big up the Aussie Massive

MassiveFullThrottleHi-octane rockers Massive stake their claim for greatness with their debut album “Full Throttle”.

Displaying a work ethic worthy of any of their Aussie compatriots, Massive think nothing of regularly traveling a thousand miles across Australia for a single show, and often return home battered and bruised. Their war stories are littered with live shows abruptly pulled by frightened security, or venues cutting the power mid-set. A self-funded trip to tour the West Coast of America involved avoiding arrest for bringing back most of the crowd from one of the shows to their hotel for an after-hours party.

Release date is set for Night By Night’s debut album

Night by Night are a hard rock 5-piece from London who fuse searing riffs with soaring melodies. This cutting-edge quintet combine the best of classic and contemporary rock, charged with 3-part vocal harmonies to create their own sound and the result is a debut of unparalleled strength and musical maturity, with across the board appeal.

Combine the heavyweight riffs and modern crunch of Alter Bridge, add the infectious choruses and lush vocal harmonies of Def Leppard for a taste of what Night by Night are all about. The band members each come with their own musical pedigree (The Sisters of Mercy, Voodoo Six) – and it shows.  With flawless production (by Romesh Dodangoda -Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout, Bullet For My Valentine) and irresistible choruses, this is a rare gem of an album with ten strong songs, telling tales of hope and heartbreak.

Night by Night Promo 2014 White Logo

This band impressed me when I saw them back in 2010 at The Gaff, London. They appeared alongside Violent Divine (SWE), Vanity Ink (FIN) and headline act New Generation Superstars (GB). So it’s pleasing to hear that they’ve finally recorded their debut album, set for release on July 14th (UK).

From the beautifully addictive ‘Can’t Walk Away’ to the hard rocking, ‘Siren’ and everyone’s new favourite song, ‘If Only’ – Night by Night are creating musical alchemy.

Here’s their new single ‘A Thousand Lies’.

“If you like hard rock with intensity, melody and meaning, you will find it here.  We have real passion for what we are doing and have pushed ourselves to create the best music possible – no disclaimers,  no excuses – we’ve worked hard and we are really proud of the result…”

Night by Night have toured extensively supporting the likes of Europe, Y&T, Jettblack, Heaven’s Basement, Alannah Myles, Acey Slade, The Quireboys, Jayce Lewis, Warrior Soul, Dear Superstar, The Dirty Youth as well as performing storming sets at Hard Rock Hell and Download Festival.

“Night by Night are without doubt one of the best young bands out there today.  Real songs with great riffs and vocal harmonies…youthful, fresh enthusiasm…”
Rick Savage, Def Leppard

See Night by Night live at their album launch show: Borderline, London, July 17th. They’re also playing in Bolton on 18th July at The Railway Venue.

Uriah Heep’s Bernie Shaw talks about Brazil, footie, touring and the new album Outsider

Uriah Heep, one of the pivotal hard rock groups to emerge from England in the late 1960s, return with ‘Outsider’, the band’s 24th studio album and the first since 2011’s critically acclaimed ‘Into The Wild’.

Formed in London in 1969 by guitarist Mick Box and late singer David Byron as ‘Spice’, the group evolved into Uriah Heep (the name was taken from a character in the Charles Dickens novel ‘David Copperfield’) when they began conceptualising their first record. The album, ‘Very ‘eavy, Very ‘umble’, launched the band’s distinct sound in 1970, one that was built around layered harmony vocals, swirling keyboards, and heavy guitar riffs. Current lead singer Bernie Shaw and keyboardist Phil Lanzon have been ever present since the mid 1980s, while drummer Russell Gilbrook joined in 2007. Mick Box has remained a constant presence throughout.

From the opening chords of the album’s hard driving rocker, ‘Speed of Sound’, to the more introspective closer, ‘Say Goodbye’‘Outsider’ proves that Uriah Heep has remained a musical powerhouse, and one that can effectively balance its legendary sound with a distinctly contemporary approach. The record, which was produced by Mike Paxman (Asia, Status Quo), also introduces bassist Dave Rimmer, who joined the band in the summer of 2013 following the untimely death of long time member Trevor Bolder.

When we played ‘One Minute’ the other week, it got a terrific response. We’re looking forward to playing more tracks from the album.

We caught up with Bernie Shaw who had only just returned from the band’s recent tour of Brazil. We talked about the tour, his observations of everyday life out in Brazil and the World Cup, Uriah Heep’s work ethic, Dave Rimmer the new bass player and how easily he slotted into the band following the passing of Trevor Bolder, how they went about recording the new album and what fans of Uriah Heep can look forward to with the new album ‘Outsider’.

Listen to our interview with Bernie Shaw:

The release of ‘Outsider’ [EU: June 6th, UK: June 9th, NA: June 10th 2014] coincides with a Scandinavian tour and a number of summer festival appearances in mainland Europe, following which Uriah Heep will launch a world tour – including UK dates – as the band promotes the new album to an eager international audience.

This latest offering from THE hardest working rock band on the planet will not disappoint Heep fans. If you’re a fan of Classic Rock and straight up and down rock ‘n’ roll, then ‘Outsider’‘ is without doubt one of those albums that you simply must get.

For all things Uriah Heep, check out their website www.uriah-heep.com and you can follow them on Twitter @Uriah_Heep and on Facebook www.facebook.com/uriahheepofficial

Thanks for listening. ‘The Classic Rock Show’ is on every Thursday, so check us out if you haven’t tuned in before. You’ll be made most welcome.

Cheers!

MJ
